Environmental Management Vision and Six Key Action Plans

We have established ‘Six Key Action Plans’ based on our environmental management vision, ‘A Leader Tackling Climate Change’, to minimize the impact of our production and business activities on the environment. By monitoring the whole process covering electricity and water, which are resources required to produce auto parts, to GHG and waste generated from production based on these action plans, we carry forward a wide range of activities to reduce environmental impact, such as minimizing emissions and maximizing recycling.

Manufacturing process Input/Output status

We set and manage annual goals and actions for the environment, and share related issues and status with our internal and external stakeholders. Furthermore, we have strengthened our environment management system by receiving ISO14001 certification (international standard for environment management system) for our headquarters and research institute as well as 24 plants and 28 parts sales offices (including distribution centers) at home and abroad. In addition, we conduct re-evaluation of the certification every year to review and improve the overall environment management system by business site.

Greenhouse Gases Emission Management

HYUNDAI MOBIS has been carrying out assessments of enterprise greenhouse gas emission, statistical analyses, and DB development through regular updates ever since the establishment of Mobis Greenhouse-gas Management System (MGMS) in 2011. We also conduct inspections by third parties following the ISO14064 (International Standard for Voluntary GHG Emissions Inventories and Verification) qualification principle to secure objectivity. We manage the data systemically so that it can be used for governmental or internal corporate review.

Efficient Energy Management

HYUNDAI MOBIS established the Global Mobis Energy Management System (GMEMS) in 2015 for efficient energy management and reduction of wasteful usage. The usage, conditions, costs and quality of energy used in all facilities and equipment are measured, compared, and analyzed in real time.

Hazardous Substance Management

HYUNDAI MOBIS established the Mobis Chemical Management System (MCMS) in 2014 in order to prohibit hazardous substances in the products and systemically manage chemical substances that are currently used. We have applied MCMS to models produced in the country.
We have established management standards for substance information meeting the requirements for the completed automobiles at the research and development stage. Currently, we analyze and review the maleficence of developed products. Once maleficence is detected, subjective parts meeting the specifications are immediately replaced or changed. Moreover, we collect data on the status of hazardous substance usage in automobile parts and perform regular monitoring along with substance analysis in order to appropriately respond in case of any changes.
HYUNDAI MOBIS plans to expand and apply MCMS to its globally manufactured automobile models and automobile models for global partners.

Waste Management

Hyundai Mobis monitors the entire process of waste from generation and transportation to processing to reduce waste and promote recycling. For outsourced waste, we operate so that the agency treats waste in a lawful manner.

Product distribution and logistics

Hyundai Mobis complies with the obligation to recycle in accordance with the Extended Producer Responsibility Policy in plastics packaging material and lubricants to minimize environmental impact in the distribution process.

Supplier, service provider, contractor

Hyundai Mobis defines its “constant business partners” by taking into consideration various factors including business relevance, whether the company supplies key parts and whether the company has sufficient technology. Not only does Hyundai Mobis distribute the Ethical Code of Conduct for Hyundai Mobis’ Business Partners to all its business partners, the company also reviews their compliance with the code in terms of human rights, labor, ethics, safety, health, the environment, etc., which may be penalized according to the level of non-compliance.
Hyundai Mobis is working hard together with its business partners to identify the environmental impact of its business practices and to reduce environmental pollution.
In addition, Hyundai Mobis provides regular support for its business partners, parts dealers and production specialists in relation not only to collaborative processes such as outsourcing and OEM, but also to safety and environment assessment and inspection. Furthermore, Hyundai Mobis also provides support so that its business partners’ safety and environment tasks are performed properly as the company strives to grow together with its business partners through the improvement of their safety, environment and health levels.
Hyundai Mobis identifies and preemptively responds to environmental risks through the conducting of due diligence on companies prior to its acquisition of them.
Hyundai Mobis has adopted and manages an environmental-medium-specific assessment system, and the results of such assessments are then reflected into the acquisition process as an important factor and are managed accordingly.
